EN    The coat is one of the emblems of masculine elegance as well as being excellent allies against the harsh winter temperatures.

The history of the coat, as we know it today, begins around the nineteenth century, remaining unchanged almost until the first post-war period. Starting from that date, fashion has undergone further evolution, generating styles and models that can be seen around today.

It is interesting to note that most of the models are of peasant or military derivation with the exception of Chesterfield.

We wear the coat to go to the office, for a special evening, for an aperitif with friends. And we love it in many different styles.
Today we will talk about the following types: Chesterfield, Ulster, Montgomery, Peacot, Reglan.

IT   Il cappotto è uno degli emblemi dell’eleganza maschile oltre che essere ottimi alleati contro le rigide temperature invernali.

La storia del cappotto, così come lo intendiamo oggi, inizia intorno al XIX secolo rimanendo invariata quasi fino al primo dopoguerra. A partire da quella data la moda ha subito un’ulteriore evoluzione generando stili e modelli che si vedono in giro ancora oggi.

Interessante notare come la maggior parte dei modelli sia di derivazione contadina o militare ad eccezione del Chesterfield.

Il cappotto lo indossiamo per andare in ufficio, per una serata speciale, per un aperitivo con gli amici. E lo amiamo in tanti stili diversi.
Oggi andremo a parlare dei seguenti tipi: Chesterfield, Ulster, Montgomery, Peacot, Reglan.

Chesterfield

EN    An elegant men’s coat, is very similar as construction to a jacket and has similar characteristics, to be worn over professional suits or evening wear. Usually made of soft, precious fabric. Classic three buttons (which then took off also in the double-breasted version); length: knee; medium-wide lapels; horizontal pockets cut into thread with flap; small pocket in the upper left side of the chest (optional)

IT    Un cappotto da uomo elegante, è molto simile come costruzione ad una giacca e presenta simili caratteristiche, da indossare sopra i completi professionali o da sera. Solitamente realizzato in morbido tessuto pregiato. Classico tre bottoni (che poi ha preso il via anche nella versione doppio petto); lunghezza: ginocchio ; revers di media ampiezza; tasche orizzontali tagliate a filetto con pattina; taschino nella parte superiore sinistra del petto (facoltativo)

Ulster

EN    Elegant winter coat, owes its name to the homonymous province of Northern Ireland. Model where the tailor’s great ability manifests itself. long up to the calf; very wide lapels, from 12 to 15 centimeters, with slots on each of them; eight buttons, two of which under the neck; shirt sleeve; patch pockets with flap; pocket (but not mandatory), full cuff and 6 cm high.

IT    Cappotto invernale elegante, deve il suo nome all’omonima provincia dell’Irlanda del Nord. Modello dove si manifesta la grande abilità del sarto.
lungo fino al polpaccio; revers molto ampi, da 12 a 15 centimetri, con asole su ciascuno di essi; otto bottoni, di cui due sotto il collo; manica a camicia; tasche applicate con patta; taschino (ma non obbligatorio), polsino intero ed alto 6 cm.

Montgomery

EN    It is called Montgomery, named after the British general Bernard Law Montgomery. Made in Duffel, near Antwerp, and for its practicality adopted by the English Navy. Characteristics: typical closure with leather or wood frogs; long three quarters and cut straight; made of woolen cloth; long sleeves; hood (which has no other coat) and patch pockets

IT    È detto Montgomery, dal nome del generale britannico Bernard Law Montgomery. Realizzato a Duffel, località vicino ad Anversa, e per la sua praticità adottato pure dalla Marina inglese.
Caratteristiche: tipica chiusura con alamari in cuoio o legno; lungo tre quarti e tagliato diritto; realizzato in panno di lana; maniche lunghe; cappuccio (che non ha nessun altro cappotto) e tasche applicate

Peacoat

EN    It is the so-called sailor jacket, widely used by seafarers since the eighteenth century, it is made of very heavy blue cloth .. (about 800g), double-breasted with six big buttons; large lapels that can be closed and fastened with a chin strap; round sleeves; two vertical hand warmer pockets; straight line; half-thigh length.

IT    E’ il cosiddetto giaccone da marinaio, diffuso ampiamente fra la gente di mare fin dal Settecento, è realizzato in panno blu molto pesante.. (circa 800g) ;doppiopetto con sei grossi bottoni; ampi revers che si possono chiudere e allacciare con un sottogola; maniche a giro; due tasche scaldamani verticali; linea dritta; lunghezza a metà coscia

Raglan

EN    The name derives from the surname of the English general F. J. M. Somerset Raglan commander of the British troops in the Crimean War (1854-55). Lord Raglan, began to adopt this type of overcoat to hide the mutilation of an arm. The term has remained to indicate the sleeve style with diagonal cuts from the armpit to the neckline, frequently used in men’s coats as it allows simpler movements.
Characteristics: very long and wide, characterized by the sleeves attached by seams arranged radially from the base of the neck, packaged mainly using heavy wool or tweed.

IT    Il nome deriva dal cognome del generale inglese F. J. M. Somerset Raglan comandante delle truppe britanniche nella guerra di Crimea (1854-55). Lord Raglan, iniziò ad adottare questo tipo di soprabito per nascondere la mutilazione di un braccio. Il termine è rimasto ad indicare la foggia di manica con tagli diagonali dall’ascella allo scollo, frequentemente utilizzato nei cappotti da uomo poichè permette movimenti più semplici.
Caratteristiche: molto lungo ed ampio, caratterizzato dalle maniche attaccate da cuciture disposte a raggiera dalla base del collo, confezionato prevalentemente utilizzando la lana pesante o il tweed.
